Campus counselling was the reason I was able to graduate. It has helped me in immeasurable ways to control my anxiety and live a healthy life. The tools that my counsellor taught me in counselling were arguably the most important lessons I ever learned throughout my four years at Carleton. It took me months to work up the courage to make an appointment and then months to see someone. I can’t imagine what it must be like for students who have already gone through that and now must wait longer. Our mental health system is already stretched- we need to support our counsellors more not hinder them from doing their jobs. My counsellor was there when I needed her support and the administration needs to be there to do the same for its counsellors.
