I believe all workers deserve access to fair pensions and stable employment. Many of my friends and peers access counselling services through Carleton University. These services are crucial to many maintaining their mental health and wellness. As such, I am ashamed by the remarks of the CU President in dismissing the impact of this strike as minimal. It is not having a minimal impact. Students are being inconvenienced across campus. Students in need of services aren’t getting those services. The blame for this rests not on CUPE2424 – as all workers have a right to strike against their employers – but on Carleton University for failing to negotiate a fair deal with CUPE2424 employees.
